• Question: Hi! I have wanted to know this question for a long time: Is it true that scientists and NASA are going to send people like you and me to Mars and see if they can live on there?

It’s not NASA, but there is a project called Mars One (check them out here: http://www.mars-one.com/).

Their plan is to build a permanent settlement on Mars, and that means that they need people to go. From what I’ve seen they’re selecting a range of ‘normal’ people, not only the scientists that are normally chosen to be astronauts.

      It’s all very exciting!

Yes Mars One is a very exciting idea, but because they are being funded by donations I worry it might take a very long time for them to raise enough money, because space missions are extremely expensive! Will be cool if they succeed tho ๐Ÿ™‚

The crazy thing about the Mars One project is that the idea is to film the colonists on Mars: An Out-In-Space Big Brother.
The people for that project have already been selected.
What is unclear is how those people are to be sent to Mars: They claim they will use “contractors” to sort that out. The colony would need to be supported in regular intervals from earth with food and medicines. Personally I think this is all a big hoax.
The company in charge will have to perform some isolation experiments (to test whether the people could survive the trip to Mars without completely getting on each other’s nerves).
Here are some of the annoucements of what they’re going to do:

      – Endemol-owned Darlow Smithson Productions (DSP) will exclusively follow the selection and training of the worldโ€™s first one way astronauts to Mars

      – Candidates chosen from over 200,000 applicants will be tested to the extreme in one of the most extraordinary and challenging job interviews ever seen

sounds to me like The Apprentice and Big Brother combined ๐Ÿ™‚
