• Question: do you ever get disscusted by things you reaserch

      My work isn’t too disgusting thankfully. Probably the worst thing is the smell of E.coli. If you let the bacteria grow too long, when you open whatever it is in there is a very strong smell, somewhere between rotten egg and rubbish bins. Not pleasant!

      Not sure what you mean exactly.
      Working in a laboratory means (in my case) handling bacteria and chemicals, some of which have distinct (and sometimes unpleasant) smells to them. But there is nothing that makes you physically sick (as long as you follow the correct scientific procedures).
      If you mean whether I get bored or annoyed with my research then the answer is: “Yes”. I am very passionate about my work, but it has its ups and downs like any other job.

      Not, not really. Sometimes one has to deal with quite smelly sediments, I once took samples in a lake in Epping forest and the muds stank horribly, turned out there was part of a rotting carcass in the bag….
